Back from recce

Dear(s) Friend(s), dear(s) competitor(s), We are soon around mid-November and my team and I just returned from our first reconnaissance (recce) of the next Maroc Classic Rally 2015- La Route du Coeur. I remind you that this rally will take place from 14 to 21 March 2015 and we have chosen this year to design a very different rally from the one of 2014, with stops (in between others) Essaouira and Agadir. 500 kms of new roads, shorter Special stages, a very safe road surface for all your vehicles. The sea, the mountains, the desert… Well, a 22th edition that will be remembered. [cml_media_alt id='692']IMG_0122-v2[/cml_media_alt]About catering and hotels, we are fortunate this year to step in Moroccan luxury hotspots where everything is designed for the enjoyment of guests: luxury hotels, spas, tasty sea foods. Some steps will be shorter too, so you will be able to enjoy and maybe even visit the beautiful historical and cultural heritage that this kingdom of a thousand and one nights offers. [cml_media_alt id='693']IMG_0144-v2[/cml_media_alt]We leave March 14 Casablanca to Essaouira, first step. We follow a very nice road, along the Atlantic coast, accompanied by the incessant noise of the waves breaking on the shore. The air is invigorating and full of iodine. After a lunch break, held on the beach, we get to Essaouira, fortified coastal city. Special stages will be short and will take place on narrow roads off the main traffic areas.

March 15: Essaouira – Agadir

[cml_media_alt id='537']image008[/cml_media_alt]After a special stage around the Sofitel, where we will be staying, we will have time for lunch and visit the wonderfully preserved medina of Essaouira before taking the direction of Agadir. 3 new special stages into the hillsides and in the “valley of paradise” are planned prior to our arrival in Agadir.

March 16: Agadir – Agadir

[cml_media_alt id='561']DSC_0157[/cml_media_alt]We move away from the coast to face the Atlas Mountains. Mountain roads driving and navigation will be in order. Lunch will be served at Taroudand in the gardens of the famous Gazelle d’Or where Jacques Chirac and many other personalities like to come to rest. Another Classic of the rally is back! Back to Agadir with Special stage on circuit.

March 17: Agadir – Tafraoute

[cml_media_alt id='591']DSC_0118[/cml_media_alt]Mountain roads, 2 epic special stages and a bivouac especially designed for the Maroc Classic. We remind, for those present last year, how the « Bivouac evening » in the desert at M’Hamid marked the spirits. This time, I decided to continue to surprise you again by organizing a night in bivouac, in the arid mountains of southern Morocco, in the middle of « blue rocks » painted by Belgian artist Jean Verame…

March 18: Ouarzazate – Tafraoute

[cml_media_alt id='641']DSC_0230[/cml_media_alt]Again the desert, huge oued riverbeds, cliffs that look carved into these arid lands. A lunch stop in the small town of Foum Zguid, around the pool at Bab Rimal, before joining the famous Berbere Palace renovated where, in the evening, will be organized the traditional « auction » to benefit the humanitarian association, L’Heure Joyeuse.

March 19: Ouarzazate – Marrakech by the Tizi-n-Tichka

[cml_media_alt id='684']ef54d9_636841bff4d3cd1f851ef35e7016ba09.jpg_srz_2592_1944_85_22_0.50_1.20_0.00_jpg_srz[/cml_media_alt]This step to join Marrakech is a classic of the rally. The road is narrow, winding in hairpins, panorama seems lunar, red mineral colors are spectacular. We’ll stop for breakfast in the sumptuous setting of “La Roseraie” before facing the afternoon Special stage. When arrived in Marrakech, we leave the car in the parc fermé like last year at the ES Saadi Palace where we will be staying. However, you have an option, the option to stay at the hotel Mamounia.

March 20

A final special stage will take place on the Moulay El Hassan circuit of Marrakech before the awards ceremony evening. This 2015 edition, we took into consideration some of the comments made to us last year, especially on special stages considered to be a bit long and not technical enough, or the pace a bit quick for some stages, not always allowing crews to have time to appreciate the quality of places we went through. We are of course at your disposal for any further information on this 22nd edition of the Maroc Classic Rally – La Route du Coeur. Best regards, Cyril Neveu
