DUAL IN THE SUN ...
Last year the « Maroc Classic » had started to open the entries to the beautiful contemporary GTs. This year, not less than 70 cars have started the event, instead of approximately 50 the previous years
The itinerary was as exciting as usual for all the fans who have been able to drive as they like thanks to the Moroccan authorities, but in totla respect with the security rules. And due to the heavy rains in the previous months in the whole country, the landscape was magnificent.
The competition was terrible, if you notice that only 47,4 points separate the first crew and the 15th one, in the « Classic » category.
In the « Classic » category, four crews have struggled for victory : the 2005 winners Paolo Solari-Bozzi – Claudia Kesselring with their spider Alfa Giuletta, who wanted to be the first with two wins in a row, Olivier Lazar – Stéphane Agostini with their Ferrari 308 GTS who were second last year, Mathias and Alexandre Ismaïl (Porsche 911 S) and Charlotte and Jacques Castelein with a very well prepared Austin Heaely MK3.
It is only at the end of the fourth of the six legs, Zagora-Erfoud, that the Ferrari crew takes the advantage. Paolo Solari-Bozzi and Claudia Kesselring have, at that moment, failed, but stayed second in front of Mathias and Alexandre Ismail and the Casteleins. The four crews have decided to come back next year to take their revenge. Furthermore, the Serb women’s crew Zorika Milojkovic-Maja Ljubisvlevic (Mercedes 600 SL), magnificent winner in the « prestige » category is decided to come back next year to win in the « Classic » category…
Once more this year, the Rallye « Classic » Maroc 2006 participants have been generous during the traditional auction, which is always a great moment during this magic week.
During the superb Gala evening, with the exceptional and friendly participation of the famous music composer Michel legrand, an amount of 465.000 Dirhams has been given to the members of the « Heure Joyeuse », social partner of the Rally, who will invest this money in the rural development of Morocco.
Dominique and Jean-François Rageys can be satisfied, their efforts have been rewarded by a successful 13th edition.
