“6th & 7th days of race”
(Marrakech) The sixth day of race marks the end of a magnificent Rallye full of twists and turns, charm and sportsmanship.
Day 6 saw the remaining participants drive from Agadir to Marrakech with the crossing of the Atlas through the famous Tizi n’Test and a program of 3 Regularity Sectors. The 2 sectors up-hill and down-hill in the Tizi n’Test appeared to be very selective and drove to new changes at the head of the race.
In Classic category, the agile small 1969 Mini Cooper of LEFORT-LEFORT won the up-hill sector, whislt CEREZO – CEREZO (Jaguar XK 140) where the best in the down-hill and the local ARAKI – ARAKI won the third on their 1969 Triumph TR5. LAZAR – AGOSTINI faced troubles with traffic in the up-hill sector and had to abandon their second place in the general standing.
In Prestige, GALVAN – GALVAN (2008 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti) won the up-hill sector, Nabil LALHOU – S.LALHOU (Porsche 911 C4) the down-hill, his brother Rafik LALHOU – S.LALHOU following him as winner of the third sector.
After 6 days of race and before the final leg consisting of a loop of 148 kms and 2 regularity sectors around Marrakech, END – END ( Lotus Elan) were just 4 points/seconds ahead of THIRIET-THIRIET (Jaguar Type C) and 4 more seconds in front of LAZR – AGOSTINI (Ferrari 308 GTB). Everything for the final win of the 2012 Rally Maroc Classic would be decided within the final day, especially with the Regularity Sector number 17 in which 9 secret controls were planned.
THE SITUATION IN PRESTIGE was GALVAN – GALVAN DOMINATING 37 SECONDS/POINTS AHEAD OF ALAOUI-ALAOUI WHO WERE OBLIGED TO CHANGE CAR AT AGADIR AFTER A ROAD ACCIDENT.
THE FINAL REGULARITY SECTORS WERE WON IN CLASSIC BY DAVID AND JAKE HALL (JAGUAR XK140) AND BOTH TOULHALI- VERGER (PORSCHE 911 S) AND DEGOUY –CHEVASSON (AC COBRA) WITH A ZERO – PERFECT DRIVE – ON THE LAST SECTOR ! In Prestige, the first sector was dominated by GAUTHIER – VOIRY on their 2010 MORGAN, and the last sector by ALAOUI – ALAOUI on their new Mercedes 350 SL. During this last day of race, GALVAN-GALVAN lost their tripmaster measure in the one before last sector and dramatically lost points and seconds. ALAOUI – ALAOUI (Mercedes 350 SL) being penalized for irregularity with their replacement car to the crashed Catherham Super Seven, the 2 crews were declared draw winners of the Prestige category by the race direction.
Situation was much clearer in Classic with the expected and final win of END – END (Lotus Elan) that win this 19th Rally Maroc Classic after 3 finishes at the second place ! The second were the talentfull THIRIET – THIRIET on their powerfull Jaguar Type C, the local LAZRAK – CHRAIBI ending third with a strong finish on the last day.
This closes the story of the 19th Rally Maroc Classic. The 20th edition will take place between march 16th and 23rd, 2013 with a South itinerary!
