THE MAIN POINTS...

The «MAROC CLASSIC - La Route du Coeur®" is an historic regularity event run under the Honorary Presidency of His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid, open – by invitation only – to classic cars, and organised by D.R.O. (Dominique Rageys Organisation) under the aegis of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Motor Sport.

An event identical in all essential principals to the "MAROC CLASSIC" will be organised in parallel for modern GT cars (built since 1983). This event, the "MAROC PRESTIGE", will have separate results. Those who do not feel able to tackle the rigours of a timed regularity competition may nevertheless drive the "Classic" and will benefit from the same levels of organisation, safety and hospitality.

• Date: 14-21 March 2009
• Eligible cars : vehicles complying with international road traffic legislation. The organiser has the right to accept or reject any applicant, without giving reasons.
  • For the "MAROC CLASSIC": touring cars, sports cars and GT cars built between 1930 and 1982. Replicas are acceptable.
  • For the "MAROC PRESTIGE": sports cars and GT cars built since the beginning of 1983.

• Crews : must comprise one first driver and one or two co-drivers, each of whom must have a valid driving licence. Changing any member of the crew is possible at any time, subject to permission by the organiser.
• Maximum number of entries : 70, two thirds for the "Classic", one third for the "Prestige".
• Event détails
  • Length: about 2,350 kilometres in 7 legs.
  
  • Average length of each daily leg: 300-330 kilometres, divided by refreshment halt.
  • Start from Casablanca; Finish at Marrakech.
  • Legs end at: Fes - Bin El Ouidane - Ouarzazate - Tiznit - Agadir - Marrakech.
  • Road surfaces: all asphalt; no tracks.
  • Tests: regularity with exact timing; no tests of speed during Regularity Road Tests (ERR).
  • Number of classification tests: 19, including one at night.
  • Maximum length of ERR: 25-30 kilometres.
  • Average speeds required on tests: between 40 and 90 km/h, depending on the route characteristics.


• Introduction to Regularity: for novice crews, there will be an optional training period during the morning of Saturday 14 March.


• Regularity Road Tests (ERR): Covering a route of no more than 25/30 kilometres, over which competitors must maintain - to the nearest 1/10th of a second - an average speed, sometimes imposed by the organisers, sometimes chosen by the crew. Secret controls will be scattered along the route to establish - with the help of a sophisticated timing system - the accuracy of the average speed achieved by each competitor. Any difference between the imposed or chosen average speed will be penalised at the rate of 1 point for each 1/10th second and these penalties will form the basis of the overall results. In addition, one or more Passage Controls may be included in each Test and each competitor must stop at these PCs. A "joker" will allow each competitor to delete his or her worst result on an ERR.


• Timing equipment: free, except that on-board computers are forbidden.
• Retirement / rejoining the event: any crew which starts a leg but which, for any reason, fails to complete one or more classification tests, will receive a standard penalty. They are nevertheless allowed to re-join the event at the start of the next test or the next leg.
